Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle

Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle
About the Business

Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle enjoys a rich history of promoting the common good for those most in need of help. Bishop Rudolph A. Gerken, the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Amarillo, established the agency on Aug. 15, 1932, as Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Amarillo. Catholic Charities partnered with the Amarillo Community Chest in the mid-‘30s Dust Bowl era to provide food and clothing in a city of 50,000. As Amarillo has grown and matured, so has the agency.

The name, along with the leadership, has adapted to best fit the needs of our community. Most recently, the organization took the name Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle in 2012.

Today’s Catholic Charities continues to provide help and create hope for those in need throughout the Texas Panhandle. The agency partners with other organizations including the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon to support the InterFaith Hunger Project.

Our board of directors volunteers their time and expertise to Catholic Charities. The agency is 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
