“Nonprofit Leadership Academy (Cohort A)”
Aug 16 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Amarillo Area Foundation

The Amarillo Area Foundation Nonprofit Service Center presents

“Nonprofit Leadership Academy (Cohort A)”

A series of eight classes designed to prepare YOU for nonprofit or civic board service!

Join us the third Wednesday of the month, January through August 2023, and gain the knowledge you need to be a productive and effective nonprofit Board Member. Meetings will take place in our conference center at 801 S. Fillmore, Seventh Floor, from 11:30am to 1:00pm and will include lunch. (Note: The March meeting will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month (3/22/23) to avoid a conflict with spring break.)

The course will cover:

* An Introduction to the Nonprofit Sector                        * Providing Financial Oversight

* Board Roles and Responsibilities                                     * Must Have Documents

* Best Practices of Board Governance                               * Nonprofit vs. Civic Leadership

* The Art and Science of Fundraising

The lead instructor for the series is Roxann Ball, Program Officer of the Amarillo Area Foundation Nonprofit Service Center. Roxann has over 25 years of nonprofit management, accounting, and fundraising experience and has been an employee of the foundation for the last fifteen years. Roxann has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees and is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

At the conclusion of the training participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and enjoy a Graduation Celebration with the opportunity to connect with nonprofit leaders who are committed to diversifying their boards.

The registration fee for all eight sessions is $125.00 per person and includes all materials and lunches. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.

Eligibility Requirements

The goal of the Nonprofit Leadership Academy (Cohort A) is to reach out to under-represented sections of our community and prepare individuals to serve on nonprofit or civic boards.  We are specifically seeking young community members, community members of color, and those who do not have board experience. If you feel you do not meet the above eligibility requirements but are still interested in the leadership training, please consider enrollment in the Nonprofit Leadership Academy (Cohort B) which will start in September. Only people who are a member of our target demographic should register for cohort A.

Questions?  Contact Roxann Ball by phone (806.376.4521) or e-mail (Roxann@aaf-hf.org)

Amarillo Wesley Community Center is celebrating 72 years of service this year! AMAZING! We could not do the work we do without the love and generous support from YOU, donors, grantors, foundations, individuals, corporations, community members and many more. Thank you!

We are hosting our annual fundraising dinner Una Gran Cena on Thursday, September 21st to continue the FIESTA this year! We have been hosting this event now for 42 years. All proceeds from this event directly support our programs that provide services to children, youth, families, and senior citizens.

Our programs:

>Childcare Services

>After School Program

>Summer Camp Program

>Texas Youth USA Wrestling

>”Behind the Scenes” Youth Modeling & Mentoring Program

>Senior Citizens Program

>Mental Health Counseling & Play Therapy Services

We are also in the process of opening up a second campus (4801 S. Austin St.). The Senior Citizens Program will launch on Thursday, July 6th!

Our keynote speaker this year is Honorable Judge Titiana Frausto. She is the judge for the 181st Judicial District Court in Potter and Randall counties. She was appointed to this position by Governor Greg Abbott in September 2020, and was elected in November 2022. She also services as the local Administrative Judge for Randall County. She has done incredible things in her career and we can’t wait to hear all about it and her journey!
